Tim Bell

Tim Bell is responsible for the IT Operating Systems and Infrastructure Services team at CERN (www.cern.ch), the European Laboratory for High Energy Physics and site of the Large Hadron Collider.   His group provides support for the thousands of servers and clients running Scientific Linux, Mac OS and Windows along with E-mail, virtualisation and web services.
 
He has a computer science degree from Cambridge University, U.K. and started with IBM in 1986 working as a system programmer and AIX kernel developer. He worked in Unix technical support and project management roles in Switzerland before moving to Deutsche Bank in 1997 to look after the European private banking computing infrastructure.  In 2005, he joined the CERN IT department working on large scale data management, procurement and infrastructure.
